Come on in, the water is fine! Splash in the gentle current, wade in the shallows, or relax on the shore with your toes in the water.
Whether from a boat or the bank, fishing the Juniata produces an abundance of Smallmouth Bass, Muskellunge, Walleye, and Catfish.
The wide waterway and peaceful waters allow for excellent kayaking, canoeing, and the use of small motorboats.
Bring your own tube or grab one of ours with our wristband program... floating the Juniata at Buttonwood is easy family fun!
Tubing on the Juniata River is a core experience of staying at Buttonwood Campground! From the convenience of our shuttle to the gentle put-in and take-out areas, it's easy to enjoy a relaxing float down the river during the camping season. Once you launch, you'll float the river at your own pace without a guide, making it a peaceful and scenic adventure for family and friends.
Our tubes and tubing shuttle are included in our Wristband Program. Most PA tubing experiences are $20-$40 per float, but our program allows unlimited uses for the duration of your wristband purchase!
Life jackets are required to be worn while tubing.
We recommend river shoes as well as bringing a cell phone in a water proof case.
Start your tubing adventure by picking up a wristband at the Store. It’s your pass to a smooth, easy day on the river.
No need to walk or take your own car... just gather at the Rec Hall and a friendly Buttonwood staff member will meet you and shuttle you to the tube put-in upstream!
After everyone gets a tube and lifejacket, walk partially into the river and get in your tube. We recommend to bring rope or clips to tie your party together.
The Juniata twists and winds lazily through the valley at a current that's just right for enjoying every moment of the float. And you might catch a train or two passing on the opposite bank!
Once you float back to Buttonwood, make your way out of the river, bring your tube with you, and hand it off to our staff. Guests are responsible for exiting the river with their group and equipment.
Once you've made it back to the campground, wade into the shallows and enjoy some time in the water. Or set up a chair and continue your Juniata relaxation!
Not ready to call it a day? Grab another tube, jump back on the shuttle and go again for another relaxing float down the river.
